Influenza (Flu) Vaccine
What is the flu?
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can affect the nose, throat, and lungs and symptoms range from mild to severe and is more serious than a “cold” particularly for the elderly (> 65 years old), young children and people with serious medical conditions.
Common symptoms include:
Fever or chills
Cough
Sore throat
Runny or stuffy nose
Muscle or body aches
Headaches
Fatigue
Nausea or Vomiting
In some cases, especially among young children, older adults, and people with chronic health conditions, the flu can lead to serious complications such as pneumonia, hospitalisation, or even death.
What are the benefits of getting the flu vaccine?
It is the most effective way to protect yourself and others from the flu while lowering severity and duration of a flu infection.
