Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine

What is MMR?

MMR is a group of three different virus – measles, mumps and rubella.

  • Measles can cause high fever, rash and complications such as pneumonia or brain inflammation.

  • Mumps may lead to painful swelling around the jar and can sometimes affect hearing.

  • Rubella can harm unborn babies in pregnant women.

What are the benefits of getting the MMR vaccine?

  • Having two doses allows you to be 97% protected against MMR.

The MMR vaccine is FREE for:

  • Everyone in New Zealand under the age of 18. (regardless of immigration status).

  • For those aged 18 years and over if eligible for funded healthcare in New Zealand.
